Delightful Children of God

Deuteronomy 30:9

Then the Lord your God shall make you abundantly prosperous in everything that you do, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your land; for the Lord will again delight over you for good, just as He delighted over your fathers,

  1. One thought about this is that we hear it said a lot that we mustn’t try to put human attributes to God, and that, since He is so unfathomably greater, deeper, and extra-dimensional, he is nothing like us, so don’t even try. I think these people have it a little backwards. We were made in His/Their image/likeness. So it’s not that we attribute God with human qualities; it’s that we attribute us with His likeness. We can identify with God’s experience in delighting in our child by giving them good things and protecting them from evil. And since God used the plural word (Our) in Genesis 1:26, I think the likeness is that of the fullness of God – that is to say, the Spirit, the Father, the Son. It’s not just a bodily likeness. In fact, he made mortal man, each one, to continue forever, hopefully with Him. And by HOPEFULLY I mean He made a Way to LIVE forever with Him… if we choose… ~à la Deuteronomy 30:19, choose LIFE and good (v.15), not death and evil.

    1. I like this, very much 🙂 I can’t really comment too much without getting into a huge theological deal, but I will say this.” And being found in HUMAN FORM, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:8. It was you Kimberly who pointed out that God Himself made us in His likeness, so there are human attributes that are in fact Godly, and Godly attributes that are very human. That’s all I will say 🙂

  2. But the main comment that I had about this verse is that same thread throughout the Bible, throughout the “Old”, throughout the “New”. From the beginning, God wants us to seek Him, know Him, listen to Him, fear Him, respect Him, love Him. He wants our hearts. If your heart is not God’s, then yes, try to follow all the commandments like a list. But that’s just something to do while you are an unbeliever.
