Hitting The Mark

dryleafIsaiah 64:6
All of us have become like one who is unclean,
    and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
    and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

  1. Yes, sin, that’s what I want to talk about. The definition often given for sin is “missing the mark” – like in archery. If you don’t get a bulls-eye, you’ve missed – however, if you are aiming for that mark and you have practiced hitting that mark over and over again, it is likely that your arrow will land somewhere on that target. And this isn’t necessarily a good thing.
    I experientially believe in obedience that comes from faith (Romans 1:5). However, there is in existence, obedience that comes from tradition, from youth, from logic, from culture, from choice. Our society needs those kinds of obedience, I agree. But spiritually speaking, eternal value speaking… God wants to see true righteousness, true holiness, true obedience that comes only from faith in Him. What I’m talking about is “hitting the mark” ONLY because Jesus has changed me, because I love Jesus. I see a lot of “good” people who would never give glory to Jesus for a good deed. When in fact, without Jesus we are ALL like dry leaves being blown around by our sins. I’m not trying to say that I don’t sin, I’m saying that when I get it right, ever, it’s because Jesus has changed me.
