  1. So there’s this secular movie with a Christian character in it who is in a “recovery” type of church – the kind that preaches to do everything right and Jesus will reward you with blessings. So when things go horribly bad for this guy he loses his “faith” and burns off his tattoo of a cross with a hot butter knife.
Some people may be thinking that if they were to lose their job, their family, their home, their sobriety – that they too would lose their faith in Jesus – that if they don’t “see” Jesus through supernatural protection from pain and adversity, then the conclusion is that Jesus isn’t there at all.
This is why I think we all need these two things, 1.) a supernatural experience with Jesus and 2.) the knowledge of the supremacy, the paramount value of faith. Okay so how does this apply to this week’s verse, revelation 5:9? Only Jesus is worthy and only Jesus is able. Because when push-came-to-shove, that christian from that movie thinks that if he is able and worthy then he’ll be saved… he wasn’t given the right gospel. The good news of Jesus Christ is that He is the ONLY one who is worthy and able. And so getting that revelation to surrender to Jesus is very important… He transforms our hearts, our desires to meet those requirements in the bible… that long list of how to behave. HE makes us worthy – ONLY JESUS.
So if you’re one of those Christians who is fanatically doing everything the bible says to do and to not do… you’re presenting yourself as able & worthy to go to heaven… I can think of only one thing to say to you… that is messed up!
