When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them.

  1. From Glenn: I was just reading a scripture in Isaiah 1:9 ” Unless the Lord of Hosts had left us a few survivors, we would be like Sodom, We would be like Gomorrah”. It would appear that God spares cities of judgement, when he has His righteous ones in position, and holding. Notice Genesis 19:15. God called Lot and his family out! The Lord’s judgement was coming, there were not 10 righteous to be found in Sodom, not even a “few survivors”( Genesis 18:32). only Christ’s mercy and compassion. In Genesis 19 verse 15, The word says, YOU WILL be swept away in the punishment of the city, verse 16 says the angels had to pull them out.

    1. Wow, that is so true, Glenn. I wonder if we would get such a clear warning as did Lot. He had no “open window”. He was being asked to flee to the mountains with nothing. He then asked for a “small” opportunity nearby instead of going into the wilderness with “only” God to take care of them. It’s kinda shocking how little faith, if any, Lot had after what he experienced.

  2. From Glenn: I just wanted to add, Isaiah 26-20
Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course. I have felt a sense that judgement is coming, but have not seen nor heard of anywhere else to go from the Lord.

  3. For some reason I’m reading this & thinking about Nineveh. The Lord was looking for away to be merciful to “that great city” for the sake of animals and more than 120,000 kids. So it wasn’t so hard to disappoint Jonah when all the people showed ANY amount of fear of the Lord.
… I’m sure there were animals & children in Sodom when it was bombed by God. But then there’s another thing that God accomplishes with these huge “event” judgements – it is also a harvest of souls into paradise &away from the abuse & corruption that they must have been suffering.
… As another aside on this subject, I wonder how long God’s mercy will last when a nation sanctions the death of over 3,000 helpless people per day. If we don’t end it, He will, I think.

    1. Yeah God has a plan. You know when Jesus spoke about the last days at the time He will come back , He said, it will be just like the days of Lot. Every time I read this I think of the pull that Lot and his family had in Sodom. How the angels had to physically take them by the hand to escape the judgment. Look at Lots wife the pull was so strong she could not let it go. I believe this is warning for us in this world as believers, are we letting the pull of the world pull us in with them, to comfortable with sin that we become desensitized with it. France legalized gay marriage in 2013 America 2015. Judgment can happen now at anytime. I am looking for Jesus’s and the angels.I believe our time is so short.

      1. I am looking too. I was just encouraging a lady who asked for prayer about her marriage. I said that what matters in any situation, good or bad, is that you keep turning to Jesus. Our desire is for Jesus and he’ll supernaturally guide you. I am sure that the Lord wants us here in Lake Elsinore, because I seek Him in what he wants us to do or where to go. If he wanted us to run to the hills, I am sure that He would make it clear to us : )
Also when I see Damascus in a heap of rubble (Isaiah 17:1) it makes me more encouraged that the end of this age is very near.

  4. So, it does SEEM like Lot and his family were taken by the hand, out of harms way, because of Abraham’s prayers. However, he doesn’t mention Lot specifically when talking with the Lord. I think the Lord just knew that it would be something that would please Abraham. Or maybe they were saved because of Lot’s hospitality. Maybe he was gonna be killed with everyone else if he didn’t act as he did. Interesting… because the cities were destroyed… and there wasn’t ten righteous in the whole city, but he did save Lot… and the little town nearby : )
